The first day of the 3 day F2 Post season testing at Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi would be entirely run in fine conditions.
This would be Calan's first outing in an F2 car which is significantly different to the Formula 3. He would need to adapt to the great weight, turbo engine, increased downforce, 18 inch wheels and in addition his first time at the circuit.
With 6 flags interrupting the first 2 hours of the 3 hour morning session, Calan’s laps were compromised on all occasions on the first set of new tyres. However he quickly looked comfortable with the F2 car with solid individual sectors across different laps.
On his second set however he had a clean run and finished P16, 1.4 secs off P1 and only 5 100ths off P12. With room to improve further and learning through the session, this was a solid start.
The afternoon session was very pleasing for Calan executing a long race run first, and then another push run on a second set of used tyres. At the end of the used tyre running he was around P3/P4.
On his final new tyre run for the day, he posted three very good laps to finish the session P6 and the second highest rookie, an impressive Day 1 result.
“Very happy with the result today considering everything is new, the car, the track, the tyres, the team, the engine and even the brakes! Still a lot to learn so a lot more potential pace to come, but everything has gone well so far," said Calan.
Testing continues Friday and Saturday.
