The 2016 West Australian Formula Ford series starts in April which is a month later than usual. Although it is still a few months away, I cannot wait for racing to start again. This year, I will be competing to win the championship, and racing in all seven rounds of the year, once again with Fastlane Racing. Over the off-season, I haven’t slowed down my physical training. In fact I’ve been working harder and harder, as any time spent exercising can only help get me prepared for the upcoming season of racing. One thing I learned driving the Formula 4 is just how much leg strength you need to brake well, and I intend to take that learning into my Formula Ford driving.

The first round of the WA Formula Ford championship is at Barbagallo, on the 17th of April. The second round of the Formula Ford championship is at Collie Motorplex which will be the first time I have raced a car there, though I have been there once before in karts. The Collie round will involve a few days away which will be a great experience with the team.
In a few weeks time I will begin testing in the car, and will continue to test on a regular basis. With a switch in tyre this year for Formula Ford across the country to the Yokohama tyre, this will be even more interesting as we learn what adjustments are needed on the car for these. Interestingly I have driven on the tyre before as Brett advised I used these tyres when I first started out in the Formula Ford. It will be different now though, as I will be able to push the new tyre from the outset and see what it can do, whereas previously I was on quite a steep learning curve.
It is going to be a very competitive year, with large and strong fields, so I can’t wait for it to get underway!
