In wet conditions and poor visibility, Calan made a good start out of his grid position of P12 and held position over the early laps of the race. Overtaking moves were difficult to make amongst the traffic at this stage, and there was the added challenge that conditions would continue to dry meaning an element of tyre management would be required.
After moving up to P11, in the latter half of the race Van Der Helm spun ahead of Calan which condensed the pack together. In the remaining laps he was involved in constant battles losing some positions and then gaining these back, to finish where he started in P12.
"Another solid result today. I lost a few positions in the first half of the race, but fought back to 12th in the second half in a really challenging race with rapidly changing conditions," said Calan after the race.
"Overall it’s been a great weekend, I’ve learned a lot and look forward to building upon this for some more strong results next round at the Red Bull Ring!"
