As soon we arrived at the circuit today, it was striking how different this event is going to be, and just how many measures the FIA and F1 have put in place to ensure that there is no risk of infection. All that are involved in the paddock itself have returned negative Covid 19 tests, and once inside categories are kept in their own compounds with very restricted movement from the team pits themselves.
The track walk was an interesting experience, with Calan having the opportunity to share this part of his preparation with not only his engineer and the team, but walking alongside F1 drivers such as Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll.
The remainder of the day was spent working through all of the preparations weighing the car, checking the seat fitting and strategy planning for tomorrow, and finally the driver’s briefing over “Zoom”!
A 45 minute practice session will start the season tomorrow, followed by Qualifying in the afternoon.
