In only his second Formula 2 event and his first time at the challenging Jeddah circuit, Calan Williams has delivered an outstanding qualifying performance to be P7.
After a practice session which was shortened through red flag stoppages, the field took to the circuit in the evening for the 30 min session.
Still improving with every lap as he continued to learn the circuit, Calan sat in P12 after the first push lap on his second set of tyres when the session was halted for a red flag.
With 10 mins to run, Calan completed additional preparation laps on the tyre prior to making his final quick lap for the session, when once again a red flag brough the session to a stop, now with 4 min remaining on the clock.
Having not yet completed his final push lap, Calan was now in P17, but when the session restarted had the opportunity to complete one preparation lap and one final push.
In the first sector he improved by 7 tenths of a second and continued to improve in sectors 2 and 3 to post a 1:41.46 to finish the session in P7.
With the reverse top 10 format, Calan will start the Saturday Sprint Race on the second row from P4, and the Sunday Feature race from his qualifying position of P7.
