Friday commenced with an early Free Practice session over 45 mins under mainly dry conditions. There was just the hint of dampness in the air with the odd drop of rain, however the enitre session was run on slick tyres.
Calan put in another very solid practice session finishing the session on P16, but also late in the session putting in the quickest times for the first two sectors before arriving on a group of 4 cars driving slowly to attempt to ctreate space for their flying lap runs.
Qualifying started in wet conditions, with the rain falling solidly. Before any of the filed could set a lap time, two drivers left the circuit due to standing water at turn 10 red flagging the session. As conditions had dramatically worsened with rain increasing, the session was suspended.
It was subsequently determined that the qualifying session would be restared at 7:05pm after the final F1 practice session for the day.
When the session restarted, the rain was continuing to fall, however not with the same standing water on the circuit. Calan started the session well, and was sitting in P11 after the first run when the field came into the pits to change or re-pressure tyres.
With 11 mins to go, he rejoined the session and on his first flying lap of that run put ina superb 1:52.2 to take P5 in the session and a fantastic result for both Calan and the team.
Calan will start tomorrow's race from P5 and the third row of the grid 10:20am local time in Hungary (4:20pm Perth time).
