We are right down at the southern point of New Zealand now for round 2 of the Castrol Toyota Racing Series at Teretonga Park Raceway near Invercargill.
The circuit is very short, narrow, though fast with only 6 corners. The straight is reasonably long at 800m, but it is surprisingly technical and will be a very difficult circuit to pass on. Conditions are cold and damp, with wet conditions forecast for the weekend’s racing.
We were using well used tyres for the day and in the the first of two sessions, I became comfortable with the track fairly quickly. We started on wet tyres, but the track dried quickly so after 2 laps we switched to slicks. To start the weekend I set a 54.9, before having a spin at turn 5 toward the end of the session.
The track is enjoyable to drive, and in the second session I pushed a little harder dropping my quickest time to 54.3 for P9 for the session (of 16). With the shortness of the track, times are very close, and to illustrate this my time was less than 0.2 second from P4.
Friday will have 3 more practice sessions ahead of qualifying and racing on the weekend.
