Exciting first day with the team at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Arrived at the track early as the team arrived from Jerez where they had been testing for the previous two days. We were there a little earlier which gave us the opportunity to have a look around the track. It is an amazing place, and the circuit looks incredible.
The team were very welcoming. Tom Toovey is to be my engineer, which is great for me as I know Tom from when he was involved with Fastlane Racing during my first few races with them in Formula Ford. I also met one of the other two drivers for this test, Yves Baltas from America and it was good to get to know him and share some stories about our respective paths to this point.
We took quite a bit of time to fit me into the car, with the team taking a great deal of care to make sure everything was 100 percent right. Then I went for a track walk with Tom to have a close look at the finer details on driving the circuit. I then finished the day running through some data with both Tom and Mick Kouros.
The majority of the other teams here are with the FIA Formula 3 Championship, so are in slightly quicker cars, so my key benchmarks will be those also in the Fortec team, Yves and Petru Florescu (Romania). There will be five 40 min sessions each of the two days, with the plan for tomorrow to get in as many laps as possible to set myself up for some good running on new tyres Friday.
