With fine, but very cool, conditions on Sunday we started the day optimistic that adjustments to the car and strategy would provide the solution to our lack of all round grip and then further compounding problem with losing the condition of the tyres.
Unfortunately that was not to be the case, and the consistent problem continued in both qualifying and Race 2 with both myself and my team mate qualifying 15th and 16th and then finishing in the same positions for the race after the tyres grained severely again.
In Race 2 I got away to a very good start and forced my way up to 11th. My starts and racing in the early laps has been a good positive I will take away from this weekend. Once the tyres went away though our lap times dropped dramatically making further progress impossible along with defending position from behind very difficult.
Thanks as always to Mick and the team at Fortec Motorsport. We demonstrated on Thursday where we were setting the pace at the top of the timesheets that this is where we belong and will be moving forward. Something changed Friday once we were allocated the Championship tyres, but by the time this was evident there were no further practice sessions prior to Qualifying. The team worked incredibly hard to find a solution under challenging circumstances. Of course I worked equally hard to find extra time, and I am very satisfied I also did everything I could.
We have work to do now before Round 2, but I am confident in our team and that together we will make the improvements necessary.
