With the rain still coming down for the start of practice, all drivers were on wet tyres. Calan immediately looked comfortable with the car and for the majority of the wet weather running was up in the top 5 positions. With 13 minutes left on the clock the entire field pitted to switch to slick tyres as the circuit was drying. Calan ended this wet weather running in P2, and only just over a tenth of a second out of top spot which is an encouraging start with limited experience of these cars in the wet.
With two push laps on slick tyres at the end of the session, Calan put in a solid final lap to finish the session in P16.
Qualifying is a 25 minute session, with 2 sets of new tyres available. On the first set Calan broke into the 1:20 mark to set a time which saw him at P19 after the first run.
The final run on the second set of tyres commenced with around 7 minutes left on the clock, and enough time for 3 push laps to end the session with the track at it’s quickest at this point. The first push lap was good, with a 1:20.5 pushing him for a while up to P12. However the end of the session didn’t play out in his favour, with both of his final two laps impeded by drivers pulling out of their own laps in front.
P23 was the final result where he will start from for Race 1 tomorrow morning, with fine weather is forecast across the weekend.
