Calan Williams will take another step on his path to F1 in October having secured a seat in the official testing for the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship.
Calan, 19, will test with Jenzer Motorsport for the 3 days of testing, taking place 20 – 22 October at the Valencia circuit.
The FIA Formula 3 Championship is the highest level of international Formula 3, and the direct stepping stone to Formula 2 and ultimately Formula 1. The car features a naturally aspirated 3.4 litre bespoke Mecachrome 6 cylinder engine, which delivers 380 HP at 8000 rpm and has a top speed of 300 kph.
Every event on the FIA Formula 3 calendar is a part of the program during Formula 1 race weekends at many of the worlds most famous circuits, providing the drivers with first-hand experience of racing in the Grand Prix environment and receiving extensive global F1 TV exposure and coverage.
“I am incredibly grateful to Jenzer Motorsport for the opportunity that they have given me, and with the preparation I have had and which is continuing I feel ready to make this step”.
“I am really looking forward to showing how I can perform in the more complex and powerful cars amongst a huge field of the best young drivers in the world at F3 level.”
“I am also looking forward to experiencing the extra challenges of DRS and the Pirelli tyres designed to degrade in much the same way as they do in F1, meaning you have to manage the use of the tyre well.”
Team Principal Andreas Jenzer said, “We at Jenzer Motorsport are very motivated to start working with Calan in Valencia. Calan is ready to make this step considering his previous experience and success. We look forward to achieve a strong performance with him!”
With a busy end to the 2019 Euroformula Open Championship season, Calan is fully focused on the job at hand.
“There are three rounds to go in the Euroformula Open Championship at the incredible circuits of Silverstone, Barcelona and Monza, so I am 100% focused on these, and through being focused on these races will prepare myself for the step up to FIA F3 even further”.
